Cricketer Sandip Lamichhane Receives Eight-Year Jail Sentence for Rape Conviction

Kathmandu: The District Court in Kathmandu has rendered an eight-year prison term to cricketer Sandip Lamichhane, finding him guilty of rape.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Lamichhane has been ordered to pay a fine of Rs 500 thousand, along with compensation. The verdict was delivered by Judge Sishiraj Dhakal on December 29, confirming Lamichhane's conviction in the rape case involving 'Gaushala 26'. The sentence was formally announced today.

The legal action against Lamichhane unfolded following a complaint filed against him for the alleged rape of a minor on September 6, 2022. Subsequently, Lamichhane was apprehended at Tribhuvan International Airport on October 6, 2022.

The court's decision underscores the severity of the charges brought against the cricketer, culminating in a substantial prison term and financial penalties.
